Jennifer came to Layla with the idea of collaborating on a creative project together. From the beginning, they have both been on the same page about the type of book they would like to create. Both Jennifer and Layla, have a strong interest in Irish mythology and folklore, which can be seen throughout their personal work. They decided that this would be a theme which inspired them both and that they could work together on to create something beautiful.
Over the space of a year, they have met up regularly to work on the project. Layla organised and shot 5 photo sessions, timing each shoot with each celtic festival, from Bealtaine to Imbolc. Once a shoot was completed, Jennifer put together a spread incorporating these photos and her own illustrations. She also worked on stand alone illustrations which can be seen throughout the book. The book is a modern take on celtic traditions, keeping these ideas and heritage alive through visual art.
It also represents the divine feminine and how women are cyclical beings and so deeply affected by the turn of the seasons. Each season on the wheel is representative of life, death and rebirth.
